Hi,

I am researching avatars and their naturalness. The more research that is done the better we will understand how to make avatars look more human like, which could lead to better online experiences for individuals. It's a pretty quick online survey. It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. It's completely anonymous. Here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RS6MSD3. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Haley

Hi Hayley,

All I'm getting from that link is:
Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

I'm interested how human likeness and avatars is a psychology research study. Can you elaborate on the research purpose?

Requested URL: /s/RS6MSD3.

Hi,

We are systematically studying facial expressions and our hope is that this could lead to improved avatar representations (so the facial expression part is really the psychology aspect as we don't actually work on the creation of the avatars directly). That particular survey was part of a larger study and is now closed. Though we just opened a new one if you're interested in taking it the link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VJZJHYJ Every little bit helps, so if you do decide to take it, it is obviously much appreciated Smile

Kind regards,

Haley

This survey could not be found.

Please contact the author of this survey for further assistance.

Guess that one closed too. Sure this isn't a psychology experiment in internet related frustration tolerance? Big Grin

Is your avatar work related in any way to the recent use of avatars in reducing the impact of voices in schizophrenia? Fascinating stuff that was/is.

Hahaha that's quite funny! A brief explanation: We gathered enough participants for the first survey so we closed it, and the second survey actually had some technical issues so we closed it. Alas, I now have the new and improved link, which should work for you: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FXJSJZJ

No, my research doesn't focus on that, but that work sounds really fascinating! So have they has success with that?

The avatar/voices work was primarily using avatars to represent the voices in the psysical and allowing subjects to externalise them and 'respond' or challenge them "face to face" and thus reduce related negative emotions - desensitisation - and increase empowerment. There was reported success in reducing the impact of voices and the theory sounds plausible but I haven't seen studies first hand.

Done the survey - are you sure its not a frustration-tolerance excercise?? By the 10th image I began wanting to punch the avatars. Is this a normal response?
