In the real world, as you grow through adolescence, perhaps your first conscious encounter with fear, stress, or scary moments might primarily be emotional. It may be the fear of looking foolish, saying what might be laughed at by others, or not being accepted. It may also include bullying of different types, perhaps even a chance physical altercation, or maybe an accident, injury, or illness. These “fearful” moments and stressful situations may not be on the streets or in a dark alley. They could be at home, work, or anywhere and with anyone, including friends, family members, acquaintances, or even strangers. The “weapons” may not be pushing, punches, or knives, but they will also be used to bully, intimidate, and control you. As you mature, more times than not, you will likely be bullied, confronted, or attacked by circumstances and situations as well as with words. And sometimes as we mature, we find our own bodies attacking us with aches, pains, and the turmoil created by our own thoughts.

The ability to understand yourself and your natural capabilities will help you find solutions to the ups and downs you will inevitably face in real life. Your state of mind will play a big part in what direction you take. No matter what you face, there will be one common denominator in everything you may encounter along the way, and that is your ability to face and conquer fear.
