Re: A cbt success story
Thanks for replying Beachgirl. shappy
beachgirl Wrote:For me the TEA form thought countering exercise was the thing that got me over the hump and on the road to recovery. What exactly is TEA? Is it a branch of CBT? beachgirl Wrote:I'm sorry I didn't see your note and get back to you sooner but I never received a reply notification? Don't worry about it. stongue I wasn't in a big rush to get an answer but I appreciate the reply non the less. As for not receiving a notification, the forum owner/administrator will probably be able to help you with that if you send him a PM. beachgirl Wrote:Since you have probably already started your treatment please let me know how it is going so far and if you have any more questions. I'm actually still... somewhat in the process of helping my counselor determine exactly what it is that I have issues with. I know that sounds a bit odd, but she seems to be trying to pinpoint my issues and any pat problems that may have resulted in those issues. She's explained the basics of CBT to me though and given me a few coping techniques to work with for the time being. She's also having me write down situations that bring about anxiety, my thoughts towards them and how I feel prior to and afterwords. She's basically just described the... triangle that CBT is based off of. I'm suppose to be analyzing situations that cause me anxiety in hopes of determining that feelings happen before thoughts which result in actions, I suppose. I find it a bit overwhelming to be honest. 'Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars' - Les Brown 'No one can make you feel inferior without your consent' - Eleanor Roosevelt |

I hope she gets you started countering your thoughts soon because that is where the real work that got me better was angel11

RE: A cbt success story
I forgot all about this site... Glad to see it is still here and I hope everyone is feeling great. My life has been amazing and now I can attest that CBT can indeed help you get off meds and stay off them. I have never felt better and I am now confident my best days are still ahead of me

RE: A cbt success story
I hope you don't mind me asking you this beachgirl, but how long have you been off of medication (anxiety meds?)? And CBT helps you just as much as the meds did? Or more?
Sorry, I'm just curious. I've never taken any medication for my anxiety (well, I haven't taken it long enough to actually get results) and I've alwasys wondered how medication compares to things like CBT. Or more? Hi Ana, Nice to meet you ![]() I have been completely off meds for over four years and feel the best I have ever felt in my life. You need to do the TEA forms on paper everyday to get the most benefit from CBT but in my experience it has been SOOOOO worth it. I walk around full of optimism instead of fear everyday now and that is so huge. Meds helped keep me above water but I never got anywhere near where I am today thanks to CBT! |
