Re: Acrophobic Daughter Forced To Climb 35' Pole By Coach
I'm sorry to hear that. That's horrible.
Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if the coach still only gets a slap on the wrist for this ordeal. There's a lot of problems that happen similar to this that (in the school's opinion) don't warrant firing of a teacher who has tenure. I've had a teacher in third grade who made derogatory racist comments towards me practically everyday who continued to teach in that school long after my parents have complained to them about it. Continue to complain about it, but don't be surprised if it doesn't change things right away. You shouldn't apologize to the coach for this, only offer forgiveness (if you're willing to) if she apologizes to you or more importantly your daughter. You did nothing wrong for being outraged and complaining about this. If this was my child, I'd be outraged and complain about it too. What I'm concerned about is how your daughter is doing now after all this. Does she have an account here or wish to speak on the matter? I'd like to hear her side, seeing as you might not know everything she's feeling. There are probably other issues involved, aside from having to confront her fear. Peer pressure was likely a huge factor, not just from the coach but from the other students around. Hopefully she'll realize that she's strong for facing this at this point. If she needs to talk to someone, I'm here.

Re: Acrophobic Daughter Forced To Climb 35' Pole By Coach
i'm so sorry for your daughter that is horrible..my sis took me to niagra falls and reserved a beautiful room at the top of an expensive hotel..i made it to the top and the fear was beyond words fortunatly my sis was sympathetic (and a little fearfull herself) we walked down alot of flights of steps rather than taking the glass elevator and rented a cheaper room close to the ground..no one can imagin the extent of fear that goes with this phobia..a gun to my head wouldn't have gotten me back on that elevator..your daughter is a very brave soul to make it up that pole ...thank God she has an understanding mother..best of luck to you and your daughter
