afraid of toads/amphibians?
im petrified of toads.
i will not go outsid in my yard, mostly at night cause thats when they come out, unless i can see VERY clearly (have an effective flashlight, etc.) and the grass is cut sufficiently for me to be able to see them. they like to hide under the steps down from the lanai as well, so becasue the front door comes out just in front of these steps, i go upstairs and i walk down the steps and then jump off the last three to about four feet in front of the last step, to make sure if i scare one out from under the steps ill be far enough away it wont touch me when it jumps and i can run away. i also do this in reverse going back up the stairs. is there anyone else afraid of toads? actually, just amphibians in general i dislike but toads in particular. |

Re: afraid of toads/amphibians?
I JUST found this site/forum a few minutes ago and the first post I saw was this one. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read your post! I am soooo afraid of F-R-O-G-S! I can't say the word, I can't look at them, talk about them, etc. If I see one outside I will get nauseaus and turn around fast and try to get away. I KNOW they are not going to try to get me but I just get so full of fear with them. My family knows NOT to try to play any tricks on me about them. I have punched someone over it because they wouldn't let up. At night I don't walk around too much especially around any grass. I grew up on a farm and man... if I didn't have a flashlight or some sort of light I would NOT go outside. Heck, I'm 41 and I STILL have a problem out there. Sometimes if we pull up at night and I can't see the ground well or see one and can't get to the house fast enough, I panic and just feel like they are going to swarm around me or something. I feel so foolish about this but to be honest, it is so neat that I found someone else who is as scared about them as me. ICK... I know God made all creatures and He doesn't make mistakes but I tease with Him that I may beg to differ sometimes. HA! Hope you are ok.. winter is coming and we will have a calm few months. Well, I don't know where you live, I shouldn't say that. Sorry if I said the wrong thing.

RE: afraid of toads/amphibians?
I hate frogs and toads as well, the funny thing is I have never even come in contact with one, so I don't know why I am so scared of them. Just their sound freaks me out and if I see one I'll scream and passing one can bring me to tears. They are just disgusting.

RE: afraid of toads/amphibians?
I have a frog phobia too.I think it's the fact that they can suddenly appear before my eyes, one minute I'm looking at a dead leaf ,the next it moves or hops off.I often dream about being trapped somewhere and they are crawling all around me.
I feel it's getting worse as usually I make myself scarce ,calm my breathing and feel sick and panicky, but the last time I found one I was watering the greenhouse and there it was in amongst the tomatoes.I was petrified and dropped everything and ran,and for the first time I was in tears and retching. |

@ L-Una
Do you know when the fear first started to eventuate and can you pinpoint it to any specific occasion? Lifesupporters.com: Peer support for a wide range of social issues. Sydney Forum. Visit, work and live in Sydney |

I grew up on a farm and was used to frogs ,even used to keep frogspawn to watch it grow! |

RE: afraid of toads/amphibians?
Does it now happen only when you see them in real life? How do you feel when you see them in a photograph, or on TV, do you have any issues then?

RE: afraid of toads/amphibians?
It absolutely only happens if I see one in real life-I won't lie and say that I enjoy seeing their pictures ! but they don't really have any effect on me,its the same with seeing them on TV.

RE: afraid of toads/amphibians?
Thats interesting, many people have the same feelings when they see photos, as they do in real life.
I know that im terrified of hieghts and if i see a scene on TV where someone is walking across a huge bridge, looking down etc, i get almost the same feelings as i do if i was to be up there. ![]() I tend to shut my eyes a lot during some movies
