Arachnophobia - even fake spiders
Does anyones phobia of spiders even make then panic when looking at a fake spider? I know some of the fake spiders in the joke shops can look so real these days so I just wondered if anyone had problems with these too?

Re: Arachnophobia - even fake spiders
Nope
I can hug a giant tarantula spider if it's fake... They just scare the crap out of me when I see them unexpectedly. |

I would be surprised if anyone wasn't scared after seeing a tarantula unexpectedly  What a horrible thought!

Hi ww778 and welcome to oFear
![]() What are the differences with the real and fake ones? Is it small everday real ones that are harmless you don't mind and fake dangerous ones that bother you? Or does even a fake harmless one bother you? How about a dangerous real one - would that bother you? |

Re: Arachnophobia - even fake spiders
OMFG. D:
Honestly, I'm afraid of fake spiders as much as real spiders. Unless the two are identical, I will obviously be more fearful of the real thing. Certain spiders scare me more than others. But I"m afraid of every one to SOME degree. Even those shitty dollar store spider rings at Halloween! Once, I was on the bus on the way home from school, my friend decided it would be a perfectly good idea to pull out five spider rings (not knowing about my phobia). I then proceeded to gasp, tense up, and back away. He and others on the bus thought it would be funny to throw them at me. NO. I was screaming on the bus, and I was pretty embarrassed to be doing so, but I couldn't help it. Natural reaction to an irrational fear. This kept on going for half the bus ride. It was horrible. I finally got them to stop, and I cried quietly into the arm of my now boyfriend. ![]() Another time was at Value Village around Halloween. They stock NEW Halloween stuff. Which of course, includes SPIDERS. My loving step dad is aware of my fear, but he didn't know how magnified it was until that fateful day he decided it would be hilarious to put a HUGE (half the size of my face) rubber arachnid on my shoulder. This thang was OOGLAY! The uglier, the worse. Anyway, I felt it, saw it, screamed, and jumped. I was petrified. He didn't understand that I understood the rubber quality, so he just shoved it up in my business some more. I began sobbing uncontrollably. Boy, did my mom ever give him a talkin' to. I'm so afraid of these creepers, that a picture can stir a reaction in me. I read a story about a black widow killing someone's dog on fmylife.com, and I had no idea where this person resided, so I searched 'black widow' in Wikipedia to see if it was indigenous to Canada (where I live). Wiki had a big picture of a widow to the right, and I thought I would cry. Tears would have fallen had I not left the page as soon as I did. ![]() |

Re: Arachnophobia - even fake spiders
Holding a fake tarantula wouldn't bother me toooo much, but only because I don't think they look very realistic (well, the ones I've seen anyway!)
I still wouldn't just pick one up though, and I can imagine getting an awful fright if someone just produced one out of nowhere. |
