Going abroad on holiday by myself.

On the day of the holiday I felt absolutely sick, but stepping off the plane onto foreign soil, I felt a terrific sense of jubilation and pride- I'd finally achieved something that I'd wanted to do for years. Smile

That's fantastic Big Grin Big Grin
I don't know if I'd be that brave. Did it make a difference in the rest of your day to day life?

Alas, no.

I've been abroad three times now. What always happens is that I feel kind of 'high' for a day or so after coming back, then the usual anxieties/ fears creep back in and, frustratingly, I go back to my previous state.

Although, once I'd done it the once, it literally opened up the whole world in terms of potential holiday destinations, and now there is no stopping me.

My graduation trip.
I went even though I really didn't like the thought of being away from home and being with my school peers. It really hasn't changed my life at all, it actualy made me feel worse.
I had a horrible time! :x

Re: Best moment...
Mine is the same as globetrotter - going overseas for the first time by myself. It was such a big thing for me, because since I was little I've had this crazy ass mega fear of going away (school camps and the like). A year and a half before I went, I'd cancelled a similar trip a few days before because it terrified me too much. Before I went this time, I spent ages meditating on it, exercising and writing pages upon pages indentifying every single thought I had about it, then challenging them.

It was the best experience of my life! It has definitely improved my life. I think that it finally dawned on me when I was away that it WASN'T just chance or luck that these people were talking to me, and that really, it wasn't such a struggle to be accepted and even LIKED by others! Wow, this is sounding mushy, but I spent the whole bus ride back to the airport at the end grinning, realising that i had faced my fear with better results than I could have ever imagined. And I was (gasp!) even planning my NEXT trip away! (I've been away twice since then!) Woooohoo! =D

More than anything though I think it was the year of preparation and achieving small goals before I went that started turning things around for me.

Re: Best moment...
Hi everyone, this is my first post.
I would say my best moment was when I started work for the first time. I have trouble making friends sometimes but I managed to go out socially once a week with my work mates and things really started to improve for me. I had to leave and go back to uni which I found really hard and set me back a bit but at least I know that I am able to go out and have fun even though it was hard sometimes.
