Car Accidents?
Does anyone have a fear/phobia of being in a car accident?

I have a fear of being in a car accident; though it only truely bothers me when I'm in the car with certain people.

What I hate is coming up the road, seconds after and accident and thinking all sorts about how you managed to miss it.
If I was 20 seconds earlier ect..

Yes! I do. I'm soo scaried when me and my family are driving in the car, we could hit someone/something!

That's another part of my fear; hitting a pedestrian.

Re: Car Accidents?
Hey,

Im new but i was in a serious car accident by myself it wrote off my car Sad and i was seriously hurt and told that i was lucky that my car took most the impact for me otherwise i wouldn't be here today. I was lucky i was knocked out by my airbag that i don't remember anything i just remember seeing it going to happen then it had happened. I'm only just getting my confidence back now i hate driving so much but have to push myself to do it otherwise i wouldn't get anywhere.

The accident really knocked my confidence with everything though im much more of an anxious person, im really scared its going to happen again but i just know i can't think like that and if it happens it happens. When driving if little things happen like if someone pulls out on me before i'd just think 'what an idiot or something' but it really shakes me up now.

Re: Car Accidents?
Yes. I am extremely terrified of being in an accident. I was in a car accident with my sister in September 2006. We collided with a semi while crossing the highway. It was at night and we never seen it. I was knocked unconscious right away because the semi hit the passenger side. I barely remember a thing of that night. If someone had been sitting behind me they would have been killed. I only have two scars from the accident, which is incredibly lucky. Before the accident I had been fairly anxious in vehicles but since the accident I am horribly anxious and would rather not be in a vehicle at all. I especially hate having to pass semis or even just being near them. I avoid being in vehicles as much as I possibly can. Whenever I have to go somewhere in a vehicle I always fear of getting into another accident.

In my Wonderland...

Re: Car Accidents?
i have been in 4 car accidents, but it wasnt me driving in any of them. the first was quite a bad accident and we were really lucky. This is the accident that put me off driving and motorways. My brother was driving me to the cinema to meet my boyfriend at the time. we were driving down the motorway in the rain and someone cut in front of us and then slammed their brakes on. we ended going up into the back of a pickup truck, which resulted in a 4 car pile up. To make it wose was what happened afterwards. My brother has special needs but can drive, but the other drivers all blamed him for the accident even though it was not his fault and we not willing to listen to his views because he was disabled. as far as they were concered he shouldnt of been driving if he had a disability. i had to call the police because my brother was getting irate and a man was throwing insults at him. My father was the police officer that attended the scene which was lucky and the situation was calmed down. The whole front of the car had to be replaced and this is the car that i now drive.
the second accident i was in resulted in the car being written off. this was on the same stretch of motorway as the previous one but my ex was driving. all i remember was him putting the windscreen washers on then seeing the brake lights of a hgv. we slammed the brakes on and spun in the middle of the motorway into the fast lane and hit the central reservation. we were so lucky there wasnt anything coming down that lane at the time. if it had been a few seconds after, there would of been a truck coming down and i doubt we would of survived. the others were relitively small in comparison.

It took me 3 years to get confidence with driving on motorways again. I hate driving in places i havent been before and try to avoid it

My throat tightens just thinking of accidents.

I suppose it goes back to when I was a child.

Somewhat..I wouldn't call it a fear though...I just always seem to have "thoughts" in my head that something bad is going to happen, even though I don't necessarily believe it.

I had 3 car accidents in the period of 2 or 3 weeks. Barely missed getting plowed over by an 18 wheeler doing 80mph at one point. That's when I got my agoraphobia type deal initially. I drive short distances now. Maybe 10-15 mins but most of the time its longer than that I go with someone else.

You was very unlucky to be involved with so many accidents over such a short space of time  Did you escape unhurt from all those accidents though?
