Yes:

Exposure therapy (needs the help of an experienced therapist or clinical psychologist)

Systematic Desensitization

CBT

Why do dogs bark?

They are not barking, they are talking in dog. Obviously you don't understand the language.

Yes, I remember reading a case were a psychologist and her assistant sucessful treated a group of women using an intense session of Exposure Therapy [ET) and a lift (elevator). However the fear wasn't extingished only reduced enough to allow the women to practice with a friend. A later follow up showed it took between 6 and 12 months for the therapy to take full effect with each woman showing a significant reduction in her fears. ssmile

My claustrophobia hasn't gotten better with counseling and I won't have them shove me into a small space and try to help me get over that fear...it just is not cool.

Re: Claustrophobia...
Hi guys. Spotted a post on Claustraphobia (my one of many as some know) so I thought I'd post this up here (apologies if this is the wrong place).
I have a concert to go to tonight. My heroes, my idols, the one band I've loved for over 10 years as playing tonight at the Hammersmith Apollo. Slipknot. And I have tickets.
Unfortunately. For me to get to this gig. I need to enter The Underground.
I'm EXTREMELLY claustraphobic, and the underground is something very well known to set me off. Usually, I avoid it like the plague. But to not be able to see my favourite band of all time perform because I got scared? I do not want to happen.

I've informed the friends I'm going with of my problems, and we've agreed to buy an all day travel pass. For those of you who don't live in the UK. An all day travel pass allows you onto any form of transports in all regions of the underground within and around London. As a result, if I'm struggling to stay calm, we can get off the train, leave the station, give me time to calm down, then go back in and carry on, without having to pay any fees for more tickets for entry and exit.

But last time I went on the underground, I was going from Aylesbury town to Camden town.
This journey would take roughly an hour and fifteen minutes with no hiccups.
Last time I made this trip, it took us three hours because I had to keep stopping.

I'm getting really scared about going, but I feel I have to go, and I do, otherwise £20 in the drain.

Any suggestions my friends?

I take my leave at 2.30PM (England. London time) And the concert starts at 7PM (as you can see we've set plenty of time should anything happen)

What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it...

Hi Torqueo Wave

Did you manage to get to the concert without too many problems?

I sent you an e-mail but I am not sure if you got it in time to be of much help. =[ Anyway hope to hear from you again soon... happy3
