Clonazepam/Klonopin
I've been given more clonazepam to help me sleep.
I think it worked last night. I slept for quite a few hours.
Anyone else on this drug?

Re: Clonazepam/Klonopin
I have been prescribed klonopin for my anxiety attacks which I have been trying to deal on my own before I take it. Usually when I do I calm down and crash ( sleep from an hour to 3 hours ) but when I wake I do feel much better. This doesnt always happen but in most cases when my anxiety is beyond my controll and I am yelling at everyone and everything and my insides feels like they are about to explode outward, that is when I take klonopin/ clonazepam. I was on it every 4 to 6 hours as needed to when I feel I need which makes me feel more in control. Some days/ weeks are good and others I need them alot.

Re: Clonazepam/Klonopin
i have been taking klonopin for a while now, and i agree, it does help anxiety. It felt amazing to finally sleep and not worry so much. But now that i have been taking it everyday for 6 or 7 months i feel like it has taken all my motivation and creativity away, just make sure not to make it a habit and only take it when needed.

Hi Wave
I'm also taking Clonazepam, I take 1/4 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening from a 1mg pill. Is that too much? Is it dangerous to take it for a long time?

I'm not planning to take it forever ( I hope!) I don't want to live all my life "on drugs", because it has its side effects.
I don't know if it's this pill or not but I feel sleepy most of the time. I feel like I'm going to past out from sleep so I have to go to bed fast otherwise I could fell asleep on a chair or on the dinning table watching the TV.

But I guess it does help if you have anxiety..

Not if you are over 18 and in good physical health. Having said that it is also used to control epilepsy.

It depends on how you define dangerous, it is not toxic but it is addictive. The guide lines suggest taking it for no longer than two - four weeks at a time.

I cannot say for sure as I don't know your history, but yes one of the side effects is drowsiness and if you are tired to start with this will help you to fall asleep as well.

Why do dogs bark?

They are not barking, they are talking in dog. Obviously you don't understand the language.

Thanks Shy guy!!! ssmile

When you say it is addictive, addictive how? because I feel I could leave it whenever I want, of course I won't until my psychiatrist say so.

You are welcome! shappy

Clonazepam belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. Therefore I am posting some edited quotes from Professor Heather Ashton presentation to the All-Party Action Group
on Tranquilliser Addiction in 2006. Hopefully it will anwer your questions on the effects of benzodiazepine addiction:

..."These drugs (benzodiazepines such as Valium, Ativan and temazepam) can be fine for short-term use in acute conditions, but if taken regularly for more than about 4 weeks can cause many problems. It is these problems and what to do about them that we are here to discuss."...

"...what are the adverse effects of benzodiazepines? The best known, perhaps, is that these drugs are addictive. When taken regularly for weeks or months, they lose their therapeutic effects. Dependence develops and there is great difficulty in stopping the drugs because of withdrawal reactions. Benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms can be severe, worse than the illness for which they were originally prescribed, and often protracted for many months or more. Acute symptoms include panic attacks, agoraphobia, insomnia, nightmares, tremor, muscle spasms, hallucinations, depression, psychosis, fits and many more. To minimise symptoms, the drugs have to be withdrawn gradually, often over months. The management of withdrawal requires skill, patience, psychological support, frequent contact and time from the doctor"....

Note: the full presentation complete with slides can be seen here: BENZODIAZEPINES: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Re: Clonazepam/Klonopin
Had it not been a looked thread I would have liked to have put this reply there but since the discussion involves anxiety it will fit well here.

A fantastic new drug that has not been in use very long for the treatment of anxiety is Pregabalin, it to can be used for the tratment of epilepsy. I have seen brillent results with this drug on the ward of which I work, even with those patients considered to have severe anxiety. I would certainly suggest looking into this drug. Another good thing about it, it does not have many side affects and what little it does have are considered tolrable.
