 Im leaving on a Jet plane...... lalala but i know when im back again lala

OK, so here it is...
Tomorrow we fly to Spain for a week. Not my first flight, so I dont think thats why im so panicky... Its Hubby's first flight at the tender age of 40 and my sons (13 &14) and they are pretty anxious about it which is making me worse !
Im popping diazapam and my tummy is in knots.
Please somone tell me when we get on the plane it will all go away and I will have a good week !

Welcome to Ofear Mandimoon! Wave
So...you're not afraid of flying then?
I think it's normal to feel anxious before a trip, most people would feel that way. And especially if you do it with your family and stuff...stressy situations sconfused
But if that is what you're anxious about, then I can honestly say that it will probably get better once you are on the airplane and on your way Blob5

I'd be a dog, a monkey or a bear, or anything but that vain animal, who is so proud of being rational.

Hiya Mandi and a very warm welcome to Ofear Wave

I can't get that song out of my head now btw

How is your husband feeling about the flight? Is it more your husbands and sons anxiousness that is making you worry?

My girlfriend is a very nervous flyer in fact she now says she won't fly at all but I know what it's like to travel with a nervous passenger. It wasn't as bad as I expected to be honest and all I did was make sure to keep them occupied and not only does that help them but it helps you too.

John

Re: Departures & Arrivals
=D Thankyou both for the reply !

Last year I went over to Spain to visit my Dad ALONE ! I didnt have much anxiety before I left (not as much as this time) but my main issue was I couldnt eat or sleep and I couldnt control my anxiety when I got there and I had no meds to help me so I gave up and came home after 2 days. That was fairly understandable as the relationship with my father is strained and I have not been away from Hubby for 19 years !!
I think the reason I have suddenly got so worked up is the fact that my brain is saying "oh yea ! Spain, this is where I have a panic !!"
I was ok on the flight there, I was sat with a lovely couple and they chatted the whole journey and on the way back we had a really bad landing (people crying and panic all around and i was calm !) maybe I put it to the back of my mind and that is why im anxious ! I dunno. The fact my hubby is anxious is making me anxious as he has to drive 40 mins to airport too and then fly for the first time and then drive in spain for 40 mins for the first time too ! Its a lot to ask from him and he is normally my rock so I suppose there is not only the pressure of me keeping it together to be strong for him and the worry that he can keep it together !! Bit of a jumble.
Hope that all made sense

Hi again Mandi Big Grin

You should be proud that you managed to go all that way on your own pretty comfortably and use that this time to make you feel better. I undersdtand the circumstances are different but any positives will help you on this journey.

Would it not be possible for you to get a taxi or some friends take you to the airport so your husband can relax a little more before the flight?

You made perfect sense Mandi don't worry _cheesygrin::

Well... as far as Taxi to airport.... Ive prebooked parking at the cost of £45 and hubby says he is fine.... so maybe im reading him wrong ! after 19 years with the same person tho i am sure thats crap and he's a bad of nerves lol or maybe not ! who knows.... You will find out in a weeks time no doubt lol

And yes, I was really proud of myself flying alone with no panics ! Even when i saw my life flash before me so close to the home airport hehe
Thank you so much for chatting, it really helps, right at this moment im having a positive phase, lets hope it sticks around !

Well I would suggest putting some relaxing music on in the car and talk about things you would like to do when you're in Spain to calm everyone down. Even get the children involved by asking them what they are looking forward to most and what they would like to do. All these things will distract you and help to take your mind of the flight.

It's a pleasure chatting to you as well and I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the positive phase continues Big Grin

What time tomorrow is your flight btw? Where are you going in Spain? I have been a few times to Calella and Torremelinos (Spelling?) I also think Harold has been a few times too!

Thank you ! Handy thoughts ! We were actually doing that today when we went out. I think we are all in agreement that we are looking forward to our private pool.
We are going to malaga airport the flight is 10am which means we have to leave the house at 7am, which isnt too bad. We are renting a lovely private rural villa 40 mins NE of the airport. Torremelinos is along the coast south of that behind the mountains i do believe.

Re: Departures & Arrivals
Well yeah I think a nice private pool in Spain would just about do it for me as well stongue

I will be thinking about you tomorrow at 10am then Big Grin My parents have just come back from Spain and my dad hired a car whilst he was there and I was worried about him but he said it was very easy. They actually flew into Malaga airport and stayed in a very small town called Almunecar I believe. We have family living there and it was the second time they have been down to stay with them and they love it. I'm hoping to get out there once me and my girlfriend are living back in England. If I can persuade my girlfriend to fly that is!!

I came, I saw I didnt panic !! WOOHOOOO

OK... So I cheated a little and used my Diaz.... but I was fantasticly calm and I loved the holiday so much I didnt want to come home, so I now have depression to deal with from living in crappy old england !

We could really learn a few things from them spanish. Saw a couple of car bumps in the town centre and the drivers laugh it off and drive away !!!! So happy and carefree. I WANT TO LIVE THERE

Thank you for all your help before I left... It really helped to chat to people who understand.

Muchos Gracious !

I'm glad it went so well shappy

And I agree about the spaniards, they have a great attitude towards life
My mum is from spain and I hate my parents for deciding to move to Sweden instead of Spain!
I could have been born in spaain scry

Anyway I'm glad to hear you didn't panic or anything, go you! Blob5
