Discovered today
My fiance and I discovered today that I'm scared of water.

We were walking up to a waterfall near the canal, and the pathway was really muddy, so to avoid the mud, we'd have to walk up alongside the path sometimes.
Whenever I got near the canal, I'd get really scared. Even my fiance noticed it.

Looking back on it now, I realize I've had this fear for a while.
And I know where it came from.

When I was about 10. I went onto a really fast water-slide that got narrower to gain speed. But as it narrowed, I couldn't lift my head out of the water.
I was terrorfied I was going to die.
I passed out, and woke up at the bottom of the slide with my dad knelt over me.

I've not been able to go near a water-slide or swimming pool since.

What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it...

Wow that sounded a pretty scary experience Torqueo. I had a similar one once on a water slide in Spain. It was called the black hole for obvious reasons and my dad and my brother kept trying to get me to go on it and I gave in, in the end. Half way down water was spraying in my face so I held my breath, problem was it carried on spraying in my face for so long I couldnt hold my breath anymore and I was choking on the water. It hasnt really given me any fears when it comes to water but its certainly put me off water slides like that.
