Eating in other people's homes
Hi! I don't have a fear of food, or eating, per se. I do not like to eat at other people's homes. I DO do it at times, but only if I trust the cook. By trust, I mean I can observe that she/he is hygienic. I never much thought about it, until today when a friend asked me about it.

I remember, at age 7, that this developed. We had moved to a foreign country and I would not eat at our local neighbor's home. I don't recall having had this problem before. I eat in restaurants with no problems! (Unless its a place I consider gross, like Denny's or JB's!)

Has anyone ever heard of this and what in the world could have triggered this? I'm in my 50's and this is not a debilitating problem for me, but no I am curious!

Thanks!

Hiya SuSuMooMoo and a very warm welcoem to Ofear Wave

I know exactly how you feel because I'm the same. If it's a strangers house and they've never cooked for me before I hate eating there and always start scanning the kitchen to see how clean and hygienic they are before I can even try to eat a little to be polite. I don't have a problem with restaurants but if I find a hair or something that's not supposed to be in the dish then I'm done eating.

I basically only like eating at home when I cook or in a restaurant that I know well and can trust. Immediate family I have no problem with eating in their homes but after that I really find it hard.

I used to have that fear. I realized I felt like I was imposing or being greedy by eating in their home, I fixed that by realizing it wasn't a big deal, and if they offered me food, they did it because they like to be generous. I love when my guests will eat my food, or eat here, I want them to be comfortable.

I think people should worry about eating in restaurants more. I got poisoned just last week from eating out, it wasn't a good experience although I know that the restaurant is clean we always go there me and my friends. However, eating at someone's place shouldn't be scary as they are eating the same food as well and I bet they try to show off the good and lavish food when strangers come, the last thing they want to do is poison them! LOL

Are you sure it was food poisoning but? I mean, you may have just caught a 24hr bug and given thats the last meal you ate, you tend to blame that.

Did anyone else get sick from eating the meal. Nothing is worse than food poisoning and especially the symptoms Sad
