Fear of flying
Fear of flying causes countless people needless fear. To add insult to injury fear of flying courses and fear of flying classes needlessly expose people to their fear over and over again, sometimes for a period of weeks.
Sometimes called aviophobia or aerophobia, flying fear is not just a healthy concern about airline safety. It's a phobia that can cause panic attacks and keep people from traveling to see loved ones, taking a vacation or closing a business deal. Fear of flying is sometimes claustrophobia in disguise. About 1/3 of all fear of flying sufferers are either afraid of being "closed in" on the plane or being unable to escape. A feeling of lack of control also often accompanies this fear. The folks who fear lack of control might also be afraid to let someone else drive a car they are riding in. Different fear of flying sufferers might have fear at different times during the flight. Some feel fear on take-off, others during turbulence and others still during landing or even after the plane has landed and everyone stands up in the aisles. |
