A friend of mine is like that. She can get piercings done but she's scared of hyperdermics.

I guess it depends about the ideas surrounding the needle too. You want a piercing done so you grin and bear it but no one really wants to have vaccinations or blood draws.

I know that most of us needle phobes have an issue with the control issues involved. The fact that a medical needle isn't something you would choose out of your own free will is usually part of the equation.

Also, the fact that they are taking something out of your body really freaks me out....Furthermore, I hate it when my privacy is invaded...and sticking me with a sharp object into parts of myself that I can't even see is not an attractive idea!

My phobia goes far beyond that as there was a point in my life where I couldn't talk about anything medically related without fainting, so I definitely relate to the things you mentioned.
