I spoke to my psychiatrist yesterday and she said that she will prescribe topamax to help me lose all the weight I gained as a result of being on Effexor. I asked her if it was safe and she said that it was very safe. So I went online and read a bit about the drug and apparently it is used among other things (it's an anticonvulsant) to help people lose weight gained from taking prescription drugs.

I am wondering if anyone here had ever been on Topamax and if so, what were your experiences with taking this drug?

I read that the side effects of this drug include headaches and tingling and numbness, which I would able to handle easily, but anorexia is listed as a side effect as well and that freaks me out since I had an eating disorder years ago and I don't want to feel like that again.

I've never taken or heard of Topamax I'm afraid, but does you psychiatrist know that you used to have an eating disorder?

I did have an eating disorder when I was 14 or 15. How did you know that? I will tell her before we get to that point.
