Re: hypnosis does it work?
Being injected by needles is a lot different nowadays. I remember when I had my last injection, I learnt to think about something else.

You see, if you feel worried about a needle, then your muscles tense up, so it's harder for the nurse to push the needle into your arm, hence it's more painful.

Hypnotheray can help, but train of thought helps too. It's about learning to relax muscles.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life

Re: hypnosis does it work?
hi rick

thanks again for your interest.

can you give me any information or point of contact to enable me to find a suitable Hypnotist in my local area.

any information or advice would be appreciated

can you tell me how long and how many sessions would you expect me to need? do you think i would need follow up treatments? and what results/benefits could i hope for?

sorry for so many questions which may seem very naive but i know absolutely nothing about Hypnosis as you can probably tell.

and i am desperate for help, for a phobia which is affecting my life

regards Andy

Andy,

I would check with the National Guild of Hypnotists to see if they have anyone in your area. www.ngh.net They are the largest and oldest organization in the world, but they are mostly US based. Although they do have members from all over the world. I also did a google search for uk hypnosis organizations. I found this page that seems to have quite a bit of information on it. http://www.hypnosis.me.uk/pages/links.html

My suggestion to you is to all call all of the hypnotherapists in your area and schedule a free consultation if they offer one. Then decide for yourself which person had the approach that you feel is right for you, as well as which one you were most comfortable with.

Dealing with this fear will be pretty straight forward. Some people may offer a single session removal... Some might offer to work with you over several sessions. You decide what you think is right for you, and what you are most comfortable with.

Thanks,
Rick

In this state of hypnosis, you are also highly suggestible and it is like your self-important flies out of the window. You usually embrace what ever the hypnotist tells you to do (as long as it is within your morality standard) like a kid who goes into a fun game. That is what makes stage hypnotist shows so hilarious. Grooved up hypnotize people are singing, barking and dancing at the command of the hypnotist without any concern of how they look or what other people think. A hypnotist can't however get anybody to do anything they don't want to; it is just that hypnotize people's fear of embarrassment is gone.

Hoping this might help........... Wave

John,

I would agree with everything that lizbarton stated... I might not have used the same words.... But the just of it is correct. In hypnosis you won't do anything that is beyond your moral or ethical boundries!!!! But as far as the stage is concerned... That leaves alot open for fun.

Depending on the cause of your phobia hypnosis may or may not be able to help you quickly. Some phobias are quickly and easily eliminated through hypnosis, while some have more complex root causes and take more time than you may be willing to dedicate to the process.

I would suggest starting with self-hypnosis techniques. There are a few good sites out there that teach the basics of self-hypnosis. If self hypnosis doesnt work I would look at either finding a hypnotist in your area or buying tapes. A good hypnotist will be more effective, faster...but tapes are a lot more inexpensive.

Re: hypnosis for needle phobia - does it work?
Hypnosis works on the premise of suggestability and vaulnerability. It will only work if you 1) if you belive it will work 2) are relaxed enough to become suggestable 3) already have the ability to do the suggested action 4) already what to change your behavoir 5) are particullarly weak willed and suggestable

I found that I laughted through the entire session, I find that relaxation, yoga, and distraction including music and televison during a the fear. These are self exploration and I find that having people help with relaxation makes me feel stupid and not everything will work for me but exploration alone can be quite helpful.

Re: hypnosis for needle phobia - does it work?
IQL23,

I feel you have some serious misconceptions about hypnosis here.

1) You don't need to have absolute faith it is going to help you, a little doubt is fine. But on the other hand you can't be absolutely convinced it's not going to work either.

2) Everyone is suggestible to varying degrees. Relaxation and suggestibility have nothing to do with each other. Hypnotherapists sometimes use relaxation techniques and sometimes they don't.

3) In hypnosis you will never do anything that is beyond your moral or ethical boundaries. But it could be something you have never done before.

4) Why would you go to the hypnotherapist if you didn't want change?? Change can occur without the desire to make change, but change won't occur if you are against the change.

5) Hypnosis has nothing to do with being "Weak Willed". And everyone is suggestible to varying degree's. In my office I see some who are very suggestible and some who aren't as much. They achieve their goal either way.

There are many misconceptions out there. Part of the reason I am here is to dispel those misconceptions and perceptions that are incorrect and replace them with the facts. Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can help many people achieve their goals. Hypnosis is not a cure all and is not right for everyone. There is no ONE tool out there that works for everyone all the time. Keep putting forth the effort to each your goals with whatever tools or methods necessary.
