To me personally it means the 8th of March

Why can't different countries just agree about these things? It would make life so much simpler. I bought an American cookbook a few days ago, and I have to sit there with a calculator and online converters to be able to use the darn thing. Switch over to the metric system! Gringos.

9/11 makes it easy to remember the difference when it comes to dates though. They always write the month first, while it's the other way around in the UK. We write the day first in Sweden too.

In the USA, "08-03-2011" means "August the 3rd, 2011". Pretty much everywhere else it means "the 8th of March, 2011". The international standard is ISO 8601, in which the current date would be "2011-08-10".
