i hate water
i'm not scared of drowning or anything, but whenever i've been swimming, particularly underwater, or when i have a shower, or have a drink of plain water or spend time near a lake or something, it makes me feel wet through and i feel physically tired. it's no that i'm scared so much of the water, more of how it makes me feel. does anyone understand what i mean?

Hi thathappychild and sorry I missed this post -

I cannot think of any immediate reason as to why you'd feel this way - but as you describe it, it seems to be a physiological event rather than a psychological one.

Have you discussed this with your GP?

no, i haven't, it has always seemed to silly. i don't get sick often so i don't have the opportunity to just mention it. i told a psychiatrist about it once and he thought it was 'significant' but didn't say why. i don't see that guy anymore so i can't ask again.

I wouldn't bother finding him - "significant" with no explanation means = everything is significant - and that's probably significant - but I don't know why.

smug ba%^&@# - they hate letting on they have no idea. "You must have faith in the therapist!" What a load of crapola. :O

Sorry.... a little pet rant of mine there.... where were we? sconfused

Our body is...err.... 90% (?) water... hang on.... let me google body and water... brb...

ok....

Quote:A body of water is any significant accumulation of water, usually covering the Earth or another planet. The term body of water most often refers to...

Hang on ... that's "body of water" ... brb....

ok ...here.. got it....
Quote:In medicine, body water is all of the water content of the human body. A significant fraction of the human body is water. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water. Blood contains 95% water, body fat contains 14% water and bone has 22% water. The human body is about 60% water in adult males and 55% in adult females.
So altogether... I make that... 75+95+14+22 = 216%.
That's a lot of water. sconfused

Anyhooos...
Quote:In diseased states where body water is affected, the compartment or compartments that have changed can give clues to the nature of the problem.
Body water is regulated by hormones, including anti-diuretic hormone (ADH), aldosterone and atrial natriuretic peptide.

Hmmm... What was the question?

brb .... re-read.

ah... ok....

I've still no idea.
Sorry. sconfused

I'm kinda thinking there's got to be something about the presence of water in the body that may be dysregulating your body function ... osmosis and that - but, hey that's getting waaay outta my clinical expertise - haemotology and all that clever stuff. The fact it happens soon after being in or drinking water is not something I'm familiar with before - but that's not unusual for a mental health nurse!

But I can listen to how bad you feel about it, if that helps? sconfused

Ok.. here's as much as I'm thinking - in a sentence or 3:
Water helps run the blood stream. Without it we'd clog up. Water regulates the 'viscosity' or thickness of blood; the blood test is "ESR" or erythrocyte sedimentation rates which essentially takes some blood, shake it up like a snow globe and see how fast/slow the red blood cells take to settle (or something like that - but a lot more technical I guess).

If your body is taking on more water when exposed - then perhaps it's changing the constitution of your blood or even cells which is causing the tired feeling - as it's the blood that keeps the energy flowing to the muscles.

Well that's my first idea but like I said - way out of my league.
ESR rates are often used to look for many different diseases but usually there are other symptoms before that which doctors use to diagnose without needing an ESR.

Anyhow - I could be way off base - but the idea of water and then feeling letharged - would lead me to think of some changes in blood viscosity in the first instance. What that means - I have no idea.
And I'm not suggesting you've got a dreaded disease or need to go to the doc ASAP and DEMAND an ESR cos MR IAN SAID SO - ONLINE! (lol They just love that stuff! hehheh  ) I'm just sharing some edumicated guesses.

How often do you get like this and how badly does affect your day?
Those would be the clinical indicators as to whether to investigate it further or not.

Re: i hate water
thanks for taking the time to reply Smile

hm, how much bother does it cause. well, it means i don't usually drink between between 7am and 4pm, because otherwise i'd have to drink water. and i can only have showers before i go to bed. and i avoid showers. not to the point where i smell or anything (i promise!) but most people shower everyday, right? i... don't. and i can't go swimming. although i can't go swimming anyway 'cos of my self-harm. so yeah, it doesn't affect me that much, it's just about within socially acceptabel bounds i reckon. and when i do get tired from water it lasts the whole day, with sleepiness, hunger and a feeling of exhaustion.

and don't worry about any little rants, after 5 years involved with MH people i've plenty of my own stongue present company excepted

Re: i hate water
I think having MH involved for 5 years is perhaps what's made you susceptible to feeling drained by anything 'wet' and 'drippy' around you? ;]

Mentioning that you S/H makes me think a slightly different angle -
Do you have any associated childhood events with water that trigger?

I'm thinking of any issues you'd have with 'emotional regulation' that might emotionally drain and thus physically drain you - but I'm not altogether sure where my thinking is going.

PHOBIA MAN Wrote:I don't mean to blaspheme here, but holy mother of god! (and this is coming from an agnostic!) what on earth are you talking about man! i don't even know where to begin with you and this drivel...'osmosis'...'blood viscosity' by now you have probably put the fear of Christ into this woman (I'm so agast at your inane ramblings, you're making me go all biblical and i'm not religeous!) as you said "I have no idea" then shut up for God's sake (Oh I get it, the biblical references is me trying not to swear!) This is the second time in two days i've pulled you up on your comments, what are you on?
I think you watch too much ER or something, because you are coming out with some weird do do!
You admit that this womans condition is quote "way out of my league" so why even comment?, God damn it man (Ahem!) you work in the field of mental nursing, surely you know how harmful this kind of guessey missdiagnosis theory is!!!
I think in your case a little knowledge is very dangerous! I'm not sure exactly what the remit of your job is, but this is unethical!
I got my eye on you, just be supportive OK?
ps ref the psychiatrist, i'm inclined to agree with you there, but that's it!

Disagreeing with someone is fine, but please, be respectful. There was no need to say all the stuff you just said.

PHOBIA MAN Wrote:I got my eye on you, just be supportive OK?

Honestly, we don't need you to keep an eye on Mr. Ian.

If you disagree with something he's said, point it out. No harm in doing so. However, the way you conveyed your disagreement here, wasn't right.

If you have an honest problem with what Mr. Ian's doing on this forum, then take that up with the Administrator/owner and he can sort that out with you.

Please, respect other members no matter how much you disagree with what they have to say.

Seriously...how can you walk around and act as somekind of big-shot expert? Your first post on this forum was one of the least professional ones I've seen here.
I can't even take what you say seriously after reading that post, and your last ones arent helping much either

Maybe you should try to use your fantastic knowledge to help people instead? It's ok to disagree with what Mr. Ian says but there are nicer ways to say it.

I'd be a dog, a monkey or a bear, or anything but that vain animal, who is so proud of being rational.

Sorry thathappychild - I missed your reply some days ago.
Thankfully phobia man's rant brought it to my attention - so I guess it was good for us that he did that eh? [that's cognitive reframing by me 'in action' sbiggrin ]

The association you have with 'water' and 'failure' can bring on an emotional state of feeling exhausted.

Are you able to tell me more about the school swimming competition?
You say they didn't get to you at the time - does this mean you ruminate on them now?

FAO Phobia Man:

Subject: i hate water

This is the second time you have made public criticism - despite my requests not to do so in a previous comment a few days ago. It just so happens that both comments are directed at me but this has little relevance; I would respond entirely the same if it were against any other member of the forum in the same fashion.

I will make this fairly clear -
Your manner is not acceptable. The forum exists for the good of the users. If they find it no good - then they don't stay. The members do not require your individual analysis on matters - especially as you appear to have a most limited knowledge, experience and skill set.

I think you alluded to being one of those pseudoscience NLP practitioners who has read a little bit of something and got all excited about it - and about yourself - as if now you are on some mercy quest to the universe. I do not wish to cast aspersions on NLP - but you do not strike me as a competent nor experienced practitioner.
Do not over estimate yourself as easily as you seem to under estimate others.

I would caution you do not be so abrupt; critical and rude.
This is a final intervention on my part before I move to simply terminate your account at your next breach.
Feel free to submit this, and your concerns, to the site Administrator/Owner jonnyjonny_uk if you disagree. However, he is on holiday at the moment so don't give me reason to terminate your account before he gets back otherwise you'll not get your chance to complain.

This message will be posted to the original thread and also to you by pm.

Ian

For information of the other users; Phobia Man has been issued a one month ban while John is away to avoid any protracted tit for tat nonsense.
While I seek to retain an open attitude and tolerance of all sorts of opinions - I have determined this temporary step necessary and feel it is in keeping with the spirit of the site owners policy to keep things simple, happy and -0 above all - about helping others.

Feel free to pm me or any of the other moderators if this raises any concern.

Apologies to thathappychild for having this debate on your thread.
