I have a dentist appointment
Hi everyone.
Back in November i had really bad tooth ache that bad i had to go to the dentist, when i got there i couldn't let them do anything, but they said i needed the following done: Previous tooth extraction was still chipped in my gums so that will need removing Root canal Tooth Extraction Filling They referred me to a sedation dentist, and i recently had my consultation, but when i get there, the Dr tells me that his notes say i need 4 teeth removing!! I explained that if my teeth can be saved i'll much prefer that as i never really wanted any teeth extracted apart from the chippings, he had a quick look and said they dont seem to bad to be extracted. Anyway, i have an appointment for the 22nd of this month, i so want my teeth done, and i know i'll be sedated, but i'm petrified !!! Wont even know what he's doing until the day as he said he will xray me on the treatment day. I hope they can save my teeth and hope i can make it without cancelling the appointment |

Re: I have a dentist appointment
Well............I was extremely nervous this morning and picked up the phone to cancel, although i never did, got to the dentist at 3 oclock, my appointment was 3:15, waited around for about 10 mins and told the surgeon that if possible could he save my teeth rather than extract them, he tells me he will xray me then extract the teeth that cant be saved and to make another appointment with another surgeon as he doesn't fix teeth just extracts.
Anyway, had the xray and he says 3 he cant save there's nothing left as they are down to my gum line all chipped, he says the far back one was a wisdom and there's a 2% chance that once removed my jaw will frob forever more, so i told him to leave that. Another tooth that was meant to be pulled was bad, but he said go back to my dentist and see if they can save it as they may be able to. Anyway, i remember putting my hand infront of my eyes so i never saw the needle go into my hand ready for sedation, i felt it but it was fine, i was then told i will start to feel dizzy, i said yes i'm dizzy now, next thing i know i was in the recovery room! Dont remember anyone working on me, hearing anyone or having the work done, i honestly thought they hadn't done the work, and when i came home had to check in the mirror, i was home at 4:30, my appointment was 3:15 then they had to xray me, so in about 40 mins they managed to do the work Cant wait until i go for sedation for treatment again as now i might be able to finally get my teeth done |

Re: I have a dentist appointment
Hi there. Was this in england? If so where? Is this available on NHS?
Thanks alot. Long time needlephobic. very simular issues to yourself by the sounds of it. Had appointment for today and cancelled. Not a fun time back in the same old cycle. Face feels like hell. I need at least an extraction and two fillings possibly more & more then likely two extractions and a filling. Been able to conquer the dentist in the past and have wisdoms out one top one was fine the lower was the worst pain ive ever been in. They didn't numb my tongue on my request (that sets my panic attacks awol - i constantly feel im chocking)... I have tried everything i can self help wise. Any suggestions? sounds like you have come through this great-well done! JustGary. |

Re: I have a dentist appointment
Hi,
Sorry for not getting back sooner, yes this was in the UK and yes on the NHS ( i dont pay for my dental as i'm on income support) anyway i have had sedation a few times now and there's nothing to be scared of The only downside is waiting for an appointment, and the fact that the needle phobia will never go as the needle in the hand you dont feel and your out within 3 seconds, next time your round is in the recovery room  The dental practice that offers sedation and i go to is Sterling House in Southall Middlesex, think it may be worth while a dentist referring you, thats the route i took, told my dentist that they wouldn't be able to do anyhting as i was scared. |

Re: I have a dentist appointment
Next week I have a dentist appointment to have a lot of work done on my teeth. When I saw the dentist earlier this week on Monday I learned that I will need either a crown bridge work, or partial dentures. I will also need to have some cativites filled. I feel very anxious about going, but I want to be sedated when the dentist does some work on my teeth. I think any type of work makes me feel nervous so I am going to see my doctor and see if she can prescribe something for my anxiety to having a phobia of dentists.
