It all started at college when this student got this poopooing raindeer as a Christmas present in 2006. I then in 2007 started to see adverts on TV like a barbie dog and a cat that pooped. It then came in 2008 that I had to clean up any that was in front of my house. Now this fear has got so bad that I went all round my village cleaning animal poop up. Dogs, horses and even birds. I even began to rip a few of those dog fouling signs off lampposts near my house as they have pictures of dogs pooping on them. I now have to cover my eyes up on the bus untill I get out of my village so I don't see any more animal poop in it. I'm currently taking diazapam tablets.

Thats a very unusual phobia and Im sorry that you suffer from it. Given the amount of pet owners that walk animals and dont clean up after them, it must make it very uncmofy for you wherever you go.

Is the medication improving your condition?

I grew up with dogs so it doesn't bother me as much as it should but cat urine/crap literally makes me sick to my stomach. I had to take care of my daughters cat a few times and just scooping the litter box nearly made me throw up on a number of occasions.

I'm really sorry that this is causing you so much anxiety. I saw the title of the topic and had to comment.

I don't have a phobia of animal feces per se, but I think I am more bothered by it than the "average" person.

It is true - esp. around my apartment complex! The tenants are told to pick up after their animals, and if they are caught not doing so, they will be charged. There are even trash receptacles located conveniently around the property, and I still see droppings not picked up sometimes!

I always look at the ground when I am walking, for fear that I will step in something. Even if I walked AROUND something questionable, I will spray disinfectant on my shoes when I come back inside. I avoid walking on the grass if possible - anywhere, not just my apartment complex.

This fear is probably part of my mysophobia.....
