RE: I'm terrified of foam.. Yes, foam.
I am also terrified of foam rubber. I found this page tonight because my husband (who makes fun of me & thinks I'm ridiculous) just said that he is sure no one else in the world feels the same way. I hate the stuff. Everything you said, Twiggy, reminded me of myself. I can't look at the stuff, can't touch it, will almost crawl inside myself if I "feel" other people touching it. I also don't know how I came to be this way. My husband asked me (he thinks I must have had some kind of traumatic experience with the stuff @ some point), and I thought about all the times in my life when I have encountered foam rubber. I remember as far back as 7 or 8 yrs old when my mom put me in gymnastics, and I walked in & saw that big foam pit...I remember being terrified I would have to go in it or a piece of it would somehow touch me. I didn't last very long in gymnastics b/c a little while after I began, they had an overnight "lock-in" at the gym. I wound up scared shitless all night & couldn't sleep b/c of that foam pit! This all came back up again b/c our toddler daughter spilled milk in her car seat, and to wash it out, we had to remove the padding. My husband took the seat apart & the pieces inside to soak in the bathtub. I walked in the bathroom to help & saw him wringing out a foam pad that was apparantly undertthe main cover. I almost sank to the floor in horror, tried to calm myself by walking away, but wound up in a crying mess under the bed covers. My husband was annoyed at me & slept on the couch all night.

Welcome to the forumSmile

Its easy for your husband or other people to laugh and belittle the issue, but as you know, the Phobia is a very real, very scary issue.

We have had other members with the same phobia and you certainly arent the only person in the world that suffers from it.

Have you tried any sort of cure or treatment programme?
