Iatrophobia: The Fear of Doctors
I really hope you don't mind me linking to one article offsite but it's the only article I've ever written in regards to a phobia. This particular phobia is one that's close to my heart, Iatrophobia.

In my case I'm terrified of doctors and pretty much any other medical health "professional". Anyway, I've been dealing with my fear and making strides toward keeping it at bay so I thought I'd post some insight into what seems to be helping me, at least a bit: http://www.lifesupporters.com/family-fr ... 25210.html

There's also links to other online resources included in the article for more reading.

Thanks for the useful information Big Grin

Have you managed to overcome this particular fear now or is it something that still troubles you?

I'm still very much under the control of the phobia but at least now I can make myself go to the Doctor whereas before I'd have to be on my death bed to actually go.

I think once you have a full blown phobia you can never truly get over it. I think you just find ways to deal with it and try to not to worry so much but there will always likely be a level of discomfort.

At least this seems to be the way it is in my situation.

Exactly, the ways of dealing with particular phobias and little tips that help each other are one of the most important things about sites like this because it brings people together and gives them a better sense of understanding about their phobia.

Hats off to you for finding the courage and determination to make steps in the right direction anyway Big Grin

Thanks jj.

I'd say to anyone who's under the control of any phobia, baby steps are the only way to deal with them. If you worry about conquering a phobia you will likely always remain under it's grip. If you just learn to accept the fact you will always be fearful of whatever phobia it is you suffer and take baby steps to "soldier on", you'll find you make rather significant gains in facing the phobia head on.

Thanks for posting this article alter-ego. confused1 Unfortunately, I have the same phobia. Just typing this and thinking about doctors makes my stomach turn a little.

I agree. Personally, I don't think phobias ever go away. We just learn to control our phobias rather than them control us.

But, as far as this phobia goes, I'm perfectly happy avoiding the doctor. scool

lol funny reply Ana

I agree, I'd much rather avoid the doctor at all costs but since I'm in my early 40's I don't think it's something I can do much longer. sconfused

Yeah, I guess there comes a point in time where the doctor just can't be avoided anymore, eh? stongue At the same time though, a regular visit to the doctor is important at any age.

Anyways, I'm glad to hear that you're conquering your fear. shappy
