Re: Inflight
the last flight i went on was in may and was to spain.
i had a panic attack before i got onto the plane, and was very teary but felt a bit better when a lady came up to me and pointed out the fear of flying book i was reading and said she had the same book and had been on a course and was a much happier flyer now. she reassured me and stayed with me till the end of thr que to board the plane, which i thought was a nice gesture. when i boarded the plane i was seated next to the cabin crew by the emergency exit. he was very pacient with me. when im nervous i talk alot of nonsense, but he listened to me jibber on about the fear of flying book i was reading and what each noise meant (although he obviously knew already!) although i was petrified inside i was very pleased with myself at recognising each noise and not panicking too much. although on the way home i was much worse and panicked the ehole flight home because it was making weird noises that i hadnt noticed before! the flight i took before that was to south africa. i was amazed that i actually managed to get on the plane, right up till the last second i was convinced that i wasnt going. i had been to see my doctor who had perscribed valium for me to take as i have a really bad phobia of flying. i took my valium about an hour before flying and by the time it came to boarding i was half asleep!!! if you have never taken it and you are a nervous flyer i suggest you give it a go!! its no good for short flights though as the effects last too long. i slept the whole way to j-burg!! unfortunately by the time i got there it had worn off and i then had to get on another small plane to durban airport. it was only an hour flight but this was the most petrifying hour ever! and to top it off, the plane was green, i have always had this thing about green when flying, my mum always said it was unlucky. i was convinced this was it, that i was going to die....obvoiusly i didnt and i had a lovely holiday, saw long lost relitives and went to my cousins wedding. on the way back, we were delayed at durban airport. the desk told us that our flight would be held for us when we got to j-burg, however when we got there we were told we had to run to the gate as the flight was about to leave. we must of run miles to get to the gate and when we got there we were told the flight had left. by this time what with the valium, i was knackered from running half asleep, and my mother who is 60 was nearly having a heart attack. everyone was complaining because we were promised the flight was going to be held. then we were told we were on standby for the following flight and that it wasnt guaranteed. there were arguments at the desk and one lady was adament that she should have a guaranteed seat as she needed to get home....we all needed to get home, but she managed to get her place and off she went. eventually we were all told that we had all got places on the flight and to top it off had been upgraded to first class which really annoyed the woman who had been making such a fuss as she only got a standard seat!! |
