RE: Job hunting
Seeing as you're already happy with your current volunteer position, I think it's probably a good idea to stick to that for now and turn this new offer down. Especially seeing as they wouldn't hire you for a paid job.Blob5 I know what you mean about getting anxious about sending them the email though. I have trouble with that too.Laughing6 Just tell yourself that you won't ever have to see them again anyway, so it doesn't really matter what you write in the email. "Thanks but no thanks" is short and straight to the point. I like it.Cool

Do you think there might be a possibility that the book store where you're volunteering at the moment might hire you in the future?005_sconfused

After calming down, I managed to send the email to them without any problems. Happy7

I don't think there's a great chance. Confused

Another interesting book I came across last week - an 1869 book called 'Household Management Hints' (2nd edition).

Moving on, I had yet another job interview last week! Scared Sadly, the rejection letter came in the post the very next day.

After plucking up the courage, today I actually got round to ringing the number on the letter and asking for some feedback regarding my interview performance. Smile

Was the feedback good or bad? Thats a brave and very smart request.....i appreciate it leaves you open to being hurt, but at least then you can focus on the "bad" points.

You did a wise and very brave thing, i hope it helpsSmile

Feedback?Scared I think I'd rather not get any... I don't handle criticism very well.Laughing6

I agree its hard to handle and sometimes hurts, but it does allow for self improvment or correction of what "they" percieve is an issue.

Oh, Harold, I can relate! Criticism used to cut me to the core! Now I find that criticism, especially if it's constructive and not just meant as a put down, is what I really learned from the most.

It was mixed - among the points discussed, rather than wanting someone who is quite methodical, they were looking for someone who would be more effective at thinking on their feet.

Writing this up now, it has made me wonder - is the abililty to think on your feet a skill which can be learned in life? Contemplate

As one of the conditions of claiming unemployment benefit, I have to send out my resume to at least one employer a week.

In selecting an employer to write to, boy do I excessively overthink, as I seemingly look for the 'right' organisation.

Of the scarce replies I actually get back, boy do I hate it when they get back to me by phone. Sick3

RE: Job hunting
Have just come back from a job interview.

In the run up to it, boy did I end up procrastinating my preparation. One of the key reasons why was because of all the anxiety/ fear it brought up when I had to think about it! Still, I did get round to it eventually.

Of the interview itself, it's shortness ended up taking me quite by surprise (though it was a pleasant surprise) - they had a real conveyor belt of candidates, with each getting less than 10 minutes each (there was my thinking that I was looking at between 30mins -1 hour!).

In future, all job interviews should be this short. 005_sbiggrin
