kinemortophobia...again
Hello,

I know that "they" need to be horrific for a reason so they entertain the number of massive fanatics out there that play games like "left4dead watch films such as "Shaun of the dead ".

I know that these creatures shouldn't exist but what about coincides such as the Miami attack in may ? Anything could rise out of the ground at anytime..in massive numbers. That guy at the end of the street with a limp he could turn and attack me.

I've read the two posts about this phobia and i am glad to find more suffers like me. I noticed that they had linked the creature with something else. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find my link.

Having this type of fear may not sound extreme such as people who have a phobia of birds, they have to in counter them ever day. But it does get you discriminated against in my age group. It is a massive craze at the moment with teens and the media a like and because of this its harder to dodge. People laugh and take the mike by acting like one or talking about "them " around me.

I've tried to expose myself to them, as sometimes learning to be around something can cure you. Buts its having little effect.

Im sure you dont want to hear some sob story but as you can hopefully make out my fear is genuine and real and is becoming a nightmare to handle. I would appreciate some help or guidance tremendously.

Many thanks,

Middy x

We are here to help you out with this, so you can write down what you think and don't worry about it, we can read for hours! I'm not sure about "learning to be around something can cure you" since it already scares you off. The whole idea of it repels you, so you need more than just exposing yourself completely to it. I'm not saying it doesn't improve your situation, but it doesn't completely cure it, because once you're reminded of why you're scared in the first place, you'll back off once again and all of the progress goes away. So talk about it, share your experiences with your friends. Phobias are not something you should be ashamed of. People suffering from them have no control over it. Explain this to people, educate them. Maybe they'll have some sympathy and stop talking about zombies when they're around you. If you don't feel comfortable going to a psychotherapist, talk about it here or with anyone, laugh it off. Go back to what triggered this fear in the first place, and maybe this will help!
Keep us posted, love.

Thankyou so much for your reply nour, I am truely grateful !

Yeah, the whole exposure thing isn't working. Though i did watch a bit of "left4dead " and wasn't bothered by it, but when it came to watching " the walking dead " I flipped.

I guess the thing that started me off was when i was very little ( 3 or 4) we went to the coast as my grandma lives there. For some fun we went to the arcade and i stumbled across a game called " house of dead ". Now I have this weird thing where I will freeze and sort of become enchanted by them, especially when i catch a glimpse of there eyes ( if they have any). It took my grandma to shake me out of it. Even today the weird thing happens and whenever im watching anything related to "them " I have to have someone talking in the background and sometimes that doesn't stop it.

Now I had learnt to avoid the arcades ( which was not always possible and I learnt through growing up house of dead grew to a series) there came a film called " Shaun of the dead ". The kids at school used to ask me if i had seen it, because out was the craze back then, and of cause I hadn't. This made me un cool at school but I didn't want to tell them the real reason why. Now im a teen, and thanks to twilight with the horror genre becoming popular, I can't avoid them so easily as i did back then. "They " are the latest film coming out, " they " are featured in advertising, " they " are the next video game coming out, "they " are in tv dramas. I fear I wont be able to walk the streets because, here comes the word, a " zombie crawl " is going off.

I guess the features that scare me the most is the jolty movement. Whether they look human or look rotten if they have the movement I flip. Because of it I have problems walking past people with injuries because there limp looks a little like the movement. Second, the looks of cause. Its not nice to see rotten people with ribs sticking out. Third, is there intention. That's it when your bitten your a goner and the thought of friends and family attacking you is pretty nasty. I guess ive learnt not to trust people very well. Fourth is that there are masses of them. I wont go into crowds very well because of it.

Thanks so much for listening to my rant. I really appericate the help. Unfortunately im embrassed about this fear so I've hidden it away from people. Only a few friends know about it.

once again many thanks,

Middy x

Try not to be embarassed as its not your fault. Its good some friends know and are understanding because sometimes people fail to realise how truly bad things are.

Have you watched any comedy zombie films at all (you mentioned not seeing Shaun of the Dead)? Is it conceivable that seeing zombies in a comedic rather than monstrous light could possibly help in some little way?

No I've never watched any comedies involving them. Thanks for the idea though!
