Losing sleep over checking
It's 2:13 A.M. as I write this.
I used to check every door and window in my house, but now it's only one place I check: my closet.

I feel compelled to check it every half an hour or so.
It's almost that I feel that someone has (somehow) snuck by me and is waiting for their chance to pop out and kill me.
I know that there's no one in there.
But I can't help but look.

If I leave the room, even to go to the bathroom five feet down the hall, even if I keep the bathroom door open and I can see that no one sneaks past me, I still have to check.

I place things in front of the door so that if they're moved, I know someone's in there.
It used to help, but not anymore.

Any advice?

omg the same thing happened with me like 5 years ago but it passed.
it clearly wasn't a phobia or so, but i remember checking the closet and under the bed before going to sleep at night!

that's exactly how i felt, but it was just a phase. i think you're case is more advanced than mine was!
but your story reminded me of mine in some way!
