my horrible phobia of fans
Hi! I was just going to tell you guys of a fear i have of the fans used for ventalation in bathrooms. We have one directly in our shower and im spending more time freaking out over the fan than actually in the shower. what makes it worse is that our shower is in kind of a little nook, so it has a light that goes on with the fan. so you can either have fan off, and no light, or vise-versa. i told two of my closest friends my mom, and my uncle and aunt. my mom didnt relly understand, my friends were there for me, but my dad, uncle and aunt all just laughed and taunted me. by the way, its the newer fans that bug me the most. but old loud fans do to. Thanks!

RE: my horrible phobia of fans
Thanks for the welcome! Well, let me see here. I remember when I was four or five, and I remember being so terrified of the fan in my grandparents bathroom, that they had to cover it up with cement. Nothing that I know of really triggers it. Unless of course if it's right above me, and I decide to go anyway, and then all of the sudden it turns on automaticly. I was also reading some of them on here, and felt relieved that I wasn't alone, but I also read about some people having the cover of the fan fall off, wich got me kind of nervous. Thanks for the help!

RE: my horrible phobia of fans
You certainly arent alone as the comments and discussions show. Even i thought it would be one of the more uncommon phobias, but sadly, it appears that many people have the issue.
It would be so nice if you could buy "a cure in a box". Lifesupporters.com: Peer support. Self Hypnosis mp3 Downloads - Learn to relax, ease your fears and improve self esteem. |

RE: my horrible phobia of fans
I came to this forum looking for help on how to deal with exactly the same phobia Sugarcrisp! I've been petrified of them for as long as I can remember... You definatley aren't alone. I will not go into public toilet cubicles which have extractor fans or ventilation grids. I am more afraid of the noise I think, as it bothers me more when they are switched on. I dislike going in showers or toilets in homes if there are extractor fans... We are getting one installed tomorrow, in our only bathroom, and I don't know how I will cope.

RE: my horrible phobia of fans
I have the exact same phobia but mine also includes: vents in pools, vent ducts and vacuum cleaners. I have no clue what I am scared about exactly but it started when I was 4 when I was forced to walk in front of a spinning jet engine at the airport. I am only 16 and don't want this to affect my future life or my baby brother, what can idiot help myself?
