My needle phobia is making me consider suicide.
I am being extremely pressured into a blood test for immigration (I've never had one done before), but I can't do it. My parents are depending on me to get this done in order to get Canadian permanent residence (which I've never wanted, this is not my home). I tried to go to the lab on Friday, but ended up violently lashing out and throwing up. I had taken three Lorazem and only felt uncoordinated but as anxious as ever. I threw up for two days afterwards, with on-and-off panic attacks until now. There's a time limit for the blood work to be done, and I'm in such a desperate situation that I just don't think anything's worth it. I feel trapped with no way out and I'm desperate. There is no support for me and I've been mocked to no end by medical staff. I don't know what to do anymore, I need advice, fast.

Hi dsfgajkh. Wave Welcome to Ofear.

Sorry to hear about your situation. sconfused If you don't mind me asking, how long do you have to get the blood work in?

I don't have this phobia, so I can't say I know much about it or any 'options' there are out there to try and cope with it. I'll throw a few ideas out there though until someone with a bit more understanding comes along.

Do you have a family member or friend that knows about your needle phobia? Or someone that you know would be understanding if you explained the situation to them? I'd suggest bringing them along, if you can. Having someone else there might help a bit as you're not alone and someone in the room understands that you have a fear.

You mentioned that the medical staff haven't been helpful so far, which isn't right. My brother has a fear of needles too and every time he has one, we mention something to the nurse and doctor so they understand. Luckily, we've always had good luck. I still recommend that you mention something to the nurse/doctor. If they make fun of you, or don't act in a professional manner, ask to see another doctor/nurse. Report them.

Also, maybe it'd help if you phoned the clinic and explained your situation to one of the doctors/nurses over the phone. Ask them what they usually do for patients with this phobia and if they have any recommendations.

You also made the comment about suicide. This isn't worth ending your life over. I understand that you're upset and can't find a way to deal with the situation at the moment, but it's manageable.

Best of luck. Blob5
