Anyone planning on taking part this year?

I've tried once before and failed at about only 20,000 words when I ran out of ideas. Unfortunately this discouraged me and I just gave up rather than try to take anything positive from it, and so I didn't bother trying again. However, now I can see that the idea I was working with had the potential to be good but I didn't develop it enough. So this year I'm going to give serious thought to what I should write about, and come up with a good plot before starting putting pen to paper (well, finger to keyboard).

RE: NaNoWriMo
I know it's quite a few months away, but I've been thinking a lot about the story I'm going to write. I think I have a good idea, here's the basic premise:

Setting
Real, modern-day, world. However, there exist three types of people normally 'invisible' to the general public: immortals (ageless-seeming humans with indefinate lifespan), magicians (humans who wield a variety of magic), and 'gifted' humans (humans granted a limited power of magic by an immortal).

The immortals are split into two factions, one which has grown disinterested with the world and believes humanity should be left alone to develop as they will; a second which believes humanity should be aided and defended by their powers. The immortals cannot use magic: the extent of their power is incredible healing, the ability to dispel magic, and the ability to grant 'gifts' of power to humans.

The magicians are humans who have learned magic over a period of many years and generally serve their own interests. it is from these that the second faction of immortals think humanity should be protected.

The gifted humans are those who have some contract or agreement with the second faction of immortals, and have been granted a gift of power. This gift is highly dependant on the human receiving it and manifests in the form of that which will help them achieve their deepest desires. These cannot use magic.

Plot
I've not really figured this bit out yet, though I think some sort of big confrontation between the magicians and the immortals (who are held in great suspicion by the magicians), which threatens to reveal this world of magic to humanity and throw the world into chaos or destruction, could be good.
