RE: Random thoughts
I'm asking because my brother keeps going on to me about setting up an account (he's recently moved to another part of the country).
Overall I have mixed feelings for reasons already touched upon. I totally agree with the fact that it can be depressing - basically you're comparing yourself with others, and certainly for myself at the moment, I don't have very much to show. I can also see myself getting totally bogged down with it - double checking my conversations, what other people can see etc.. I think for now, I'm probably going to give it a miss.

RE: Random thoughts
I've read a lot on the "bad" parts of facebook. One you compare yourself to others on their but its unfair comparisons. (like people posting so much happy stuff when really they may just be miserable and you don't see it. I've also read about how it helps people be antisocial because you can sit at your computer and type something but you aren't really going out talking to anybody. With that being said, I've been meaning to create an account so I can see pictures and updates of a few of my family members. But ONLY family. I don't even want to put my own personal information out there because I don't want random people from my past finding me.

RE: Random thoughts
Could you maybe create an account with a fake name and only use it to keep in touch with your brother Globe?

Once the curiosity monster hits you, you won't be able to resist checking up on old friends or people you just met. ![]() I'm bad when it comes to that. I have a facebook account only to check up on people. I hate doing it, but I can't resist. Bleh.

RE: Random thoughts
Lol.I like the idea of the fake name. I have a crazy ex from my past who was very stalkerish and I know he stayed friends with some people so if I ever create that account I need everything to be very very private. But I haven't even been on my pc since last semester and now just use my phone for everything. Lol

Does ET exist?
Have extraterrestrials already visited the Earth?

RE: Random thoughts
*shivers* should not have checked up on ofear before bed if ets were the topic! I can handle it better in day time but I can't even watch that kids movie et! Ugh. I'm sure they exist that's why they scare me. Them being "here" I find unlikely yet they still scare me. Figures. Lol

RE: Random thoughts
^ Considering there are billions and billions of stars out there, I'm sure that other life exists in some form or another.
![]() Have they visited mankind? I doubt it - the human race has existed for only a tiny fraction of our planet's total lifetime, and for them to have 'picked' us out from the billions and billions of stars... ![]() I do wonder if we ever make contact, whether ET is likely to be friendly or hostile? (Cue images of the movie 'Mars Attacks' in my head! ).

Humans rarely kill lower-but-sentient species for the fun of it and often when they are killed it's because they can't understand what we want them to do. If we could travel to other planets harboring life, we wouldn't be keen to wreak their ecosystem, so why would they want to do it to us? An alien species, if not highly robotic, will at least vaguely be similar in intelligence, if not pretty close, so they'll be a decent level of understanding. If the alien invader is highly/entirely robotic, I have no idea what would happen as I don't know how emotion programming in artificial intelligence would work. |

My favourite moon in the solarsystem. Why can't we have a moon like that? ![]() Anyway, that is a possibility. Sadly, we probably won't find out unless we find a way to drill through the ice layer and make sure. Knowing us we'll probably manage to kill any life form that might be there in the process. ![]() On a side note, on the topic of Europa, I recommend the book Space Oddyssey 2010 (the second one in the series). It deals with the possibility of life on Europa. It's quite interesting. ![]() Quote:I would say no, or if they do it wouldn't be anything ridiculous. Reasons? If the alien invader is highly/entirely robotic, I have no idea what would happen as I don't know how emotion programming in artificial intelligence would work.Seeing as some people seem to find hunting enjoyable, and don't necessarily do it because they're out looking for dinner, I'd say we do kill "lower" spiecies for the fun of it. But we kill other species for a great many reasons. Food, experimentation, pure frustration (think mosquitoes...), and the list goes on. It's not as if we haven't killed our own species for similar reasons either. Whenever we think something is lower than ourselves, we eventually mistreat it. So I don't really see a good reason why aliens wouldn't be the same? Maybe they're not, but they may just as well be hostile. For all we know, they might not even be interested in us. They might want some of our planets resources; we'd only be in the way. If they're just out for resources, I doubt they'd worry about wrecking any ecosystems. I'm also not too sure if the level of understanding would be that great. I suppose it depends on the type of intelligence they've evolved? Humans, while intelligent, are also controlled by their emotions. More often than not, we act irrationally. Look at Ofear, we're all here because we're irrational one way or another. They might not have that in the same way. A purely logical race, only controlled by rational thought and with no emotions to speak of, would probably not have much understanding of us. We'd probably consider them quite hostile in the long run. Not to mention that their intelligence might be far more different than that. We think of intelligence in terms of what we've seen here on earth. I think it's difficult for us to imagine a creature that doesn't have some similarity to ourselves. But they might not be similar at all. Who knows? The truth is out there! ![]() I need coffee.
