scared to drive in the rain
 i'm so very tired of being this way. house bound. i'm terrified of driving in the rain. even if there's a chance of rain i won't go anywhere. i cancel appointments. i've been this way for 5 years now. well maybe ever since i had my nervious break down 5 years ago. i won't drive in the dark either. i went to a counceler. but i was scared of her parking lot. so i never went back. i can't go long distances either any more. it's like i'm scared of everything. i don't know how to get out of this. the rain is the worse. thanks for listening.

Hiya tinybit and sorry for the late reply but welcome to Ofear Wave

I'm sorry to hear about you fear and I wanted to suggest that if you would like to see your counsellor cant you get a friend to take you instead? When it comes to driving in the rain what about just going short distances or maybe even just sitting in the car on the drive in the rain and put some relaxing music on to try and take away your nervous thoughts.

Welcome to the forum tinybit. shappy

As John suggested, maybe you should arrange for someone else to take you to see your counselor. Maybe a friend or a family member. I'm sure someone would be more than happy to help you out if you explain things to them.

Anyways, why do you think your fear of driving in the rain came about? Did something happen to scare you? Or is it just something that's started?

Hello tinybit and welcome back to the forum Big Grin
Do you know what caused this intense fear of driving in the rain? Of course something happened to scare you, and leave you hopeless. When you realize what happened, then you can get why you're scared of driving in the rain. Talk to a very close friend of yours, and let them know about your status, and ask them if they can take you to see a counselor who can help, or just listen to you and make you feel safe. And I'm sure you'll find someone, anyone from your family or old friends can do the job. And you said you've been this way for 5 years, how are you taking care of yourself if you can't go long distances, and what do you do in winter when it's always raining? And one more question, are you scared of the rain itself or just driving in the rain?
Keep us updated tinybit xx

Re: scared to drive in the rain
hello nour, i had a nervious breakdown 5 years ago. my fears just got worse with time. my hubby usually takes me to the store once a week. if it's not raining i go pick up my legally blind sister (she pats me on the leg and says everything is going to be ok) and go to the store. sometimes i have to go bymyself. then i hurry. don't know why. it's not like someone is going to get me. i live in a small town. hubby already has to take off work just to take me to the shrink. she's in the city an hour away. my son will drive me sometimes. but he works to. i only have one friend. she lives away from me to. it's hopeless i guess. i'm only scared of the rain in a car. driving or not so bad if i'm the passanger. i've been in the house now 2 weeks. i'm tired. my house should be so clean. but it's not. it's not filthy. but you should be able to eat off my floors as much as i'm here. i don't have any confidince in myself anymore. i want it back. thanks for listening.

It's depression now, I guess, if you've been in the house for 2 weeks now. It's good that you're husband is taking you to see a doctor, that's very important! Make use of the time you're spending home, clean the house for example, or watch your favorite tv show, work out, read magazines or even books, I'm sure that will help you to release the tension. Call you're friend and chat, even if she lives kind of far from you! Go shopping with her get some really nice clothes that will make you feel pretty, you'll feel confident when you're feeling pretty, you can also dress up and try putting some make up on when you're home! You can do plenty of things to keep yourself entertained! Spend some time with your family and go picnic somewhere near your house, but don't drive, do it more often and you'll soon get used to it, of course when it's sunny not raining! And when you go to the store, make sure you don't miss anything, keep yourself busy and try not to rush things, convince yourself that it won't rain, and you're enjoying it! You can get pleasure in absolutely ANYTHING, even shopping in the smallest store can be fun!
And you don't have to thank us, we're always here to help!

Hi Tinybit! shappy

So you're ok with travelling in a car if someone else is doing the driving? Would you be ok using public transportation? There should be a bus you could take to get to the city?
How about biking? That should be able to get you to the store in your town? In this day and age, a car shouldn't really be that much of a necessity.

If there aren't any buses that you could take to get to the city, could you maybe consider moving into the city with your husband? I realise money might be an issue, but still...maybe it'd be something to consider? If you lived in a bigger city, the need for a car would basically go away. Most things would be within walking distance, and I'd say most cities have a pretty good public transportation system you could use.
I think you should try to get out of the house a bit too, even if it's just to go for a walk or whatever. Staying indoors all day won't do you any good. Then again, if you're suffering from depression and those other issues that's easier said than done. Hard to find the motivation to do anything productive Blob5

I'd be a dog, a monkey or a bear, or anything but that vain animal, who is so proud of being rational.

Anytime tinybit!
Keep yourself on meds until you feel as if you're totally recovered from your depression! And maybe living in the city will come sometime in the future, hopefully, when you defeat your anxiety and your depression
I'm really happy to hear that you got out of your house for a while! Baby steps! You'll get used to it, it's normal to be tired the first couple of times, but I'm sure you have the courage to overcome this! shappy
