Haha, atleast your phobia has a name, I'm jealous. I don't think anyone has come up with a name for mine yet. And I'm glad you can handle monsters! What about those people that get around in costumes so you can't see their face? like mascots and stuff? they don't scare me but I am always cautious around them!

My Daughter is 17 now and still dislikes anything in a costume and wont go near them. When she was 10 or so she worked herself into such a panic at a street parade that we had to call an Ambulance for medical assistance.

We soon realised that what we thought funny at first, could actually turn into a life threatening situation.

I think that it having a name makes it much more scary for most people. and I say this from the standpoint where if I told someone the name of my phobia they will look at me weird and they may never talk to me again. But when I tell someone I am scared of deformed people they may look at me weird OR they may tell me there fear. Also I grew up around giant mickey Mouses and Donald Ducks so I actually like mascots unless they take their masks off then I speedwalk away.

It seems to help that if people are laughing at you, you laugh too. Oops

This seems to be a common problem. A similar thing happened to my brother at a birthday part when he was about 8. The hosts dad entered the party wearing a darth vader mask and he started crying, ran-off and refused to be in the same room as him. Thankfully it wasn't a life-threatening situation and he seems to be okay around people in masks now.

Yeh I suppose a long unkown word could seem quite strange to some people, whereas if you actually explain what it is then they will understand better. I hope most people would understand and not look at you weird either way Smile. I actually hardly tell people what I'm afraid of because I feel they wont understand.
