If you go into one of the Big supermarket chain stores, say like Marks & Spencers in UK, if you a shopping bag, generally out of courtesy you show it to the girl at the checkout and she will glance inside.

Average people have no issues but if you are suspicious, they will look inside a bit harder, if you know what i mean.

But only the big grocery shops and huge chain stores....not anywhere else.

I would have thought this was pretty much world wide?

^ Like I said before, this has surprised me.

To me, it almost seems that you're being assumed guilty until proven innocent.

Other oFear members, does this tend to occur where you live?

I don't really think that happens too much here either. As a kid I was asked to show the cashier the contents of my school bag a couple of times on leaving the store, but it's a rare occurrence. Some people show the cashiers their bags out of courtesy, as Snooks said. But most people here don't really seem to bother, and the store personnel normally don't care.

I have not encountered this, though I don't really go shopping much, and when I do I don't usually have a bag with me. On the rare occasion that I do, the bag is usually empty (being brought for the specific purpose of carrying the things in, rather than getting a plastic bag).

Our local Walmart has two entrances/exits so they have Greeters on both. If you enter with a bag, they put a sticker over the opening and it makes it easier for them if a person approaches them. I do that all the time without even thinking as I know most of the greeters anyway.

I worked in Retail so it just makes it easier for the person if you approach him/her for the sticker. They do appreciate it.

Greeters ...do most countries have those? Because I have never stumbled upon that phenomenon myself.Scared

A few of the much bigger stores here have greeters at the entrances (walmart, meijer) However some places, typically smaller drug stores, don't allow school bags to be brought in the store and you must leave them in the breeze way. I think its mostly for kids since they don't typically have money anyways. However as an adult with large purses or bags they never will ask to look inside.

One case for me, I was buying a back pack, had it LOADED with stuff since I did not grab a cart since I was not planning on buying stuff, I had people follow me around the store since they were convinced I was shop lifting (even though the pockets were left open and things were literally hanging out of the pockets) and when I went to check out and said "I am sorry but it is LOADED with a TON of stuff I just didn't have a cart!" and she basically starts yelling at me because If I didn't say anything she would have thought I was trying to steal! I'm like if you were too dumb to notice that bag weighs 40lbs and has things falling out of every pocket thats kinda your own fault! So yeah. Very mad about that. lol. But other then that they don't look through anything here

^It wouldn't surprise me if somebody actually did try to shoplift that way. Some thieves don't seem to be overly careful.Laughing6

Point taken.

I am sure SOMEONE has done it and ruined it for the rest of us who just didn't realize they would want to buy everything in the store and did not want to walk ALL the way BACK to the front of the store for a cart.

Wait.... Cart or Buggy??

I say cart though. I had never even heard buggy.

Are you guys required to wear your seatbelt when you travel by bus in your country? I had no idea that we were required to do that by law. Actually, I didn't even know that buses had seatbelts in them!Laughing6
Our bus was stopped by a police officer today. He walked in looking all serious and started checking if each person was wearing their seatbelt. He was all "the whole lot of you are breaking the law, did you know that? I'm in a good mood today, so I'll let you guys off easy, but you better wear your seatbelts in the future".Scared
