I just use the camera on the back of my phone lol =]. If I was rich though, I'd love to have a Canon Rebel. The original.

Welcome to the good life! scool , what lens do you have jonny? i always recommend the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 as a first lens, the it may be a prime lens (means you cant change the focal length (aka zoom)) but the low aperture opens up avenues for more creativity and its an excellent portrait lens!

Take a look for one, it's pretty cheap for the quality of the lens Smile

It certainly is the good life _cheesygrin:: To be honest it's actually Ellens new toy as she's the one more into photography even though I still share an interest and know a little about it as my uncle used to be a professional photographer for a major newspaper here in England before he retired.

The lens it come with is an EF 18-55 - is this the one?

Ellen would like a tripod because she wants to play around with long exposure shots especially at night in the city here as this opens up some great chances of cool photos.

yep the kit lens, get a telephoto, 90-300mm are cheap.

Get a Manfrotto tripod, I just got a semi-pro tripod and tripod head (cost me £200). Those cheap tripods aren't very good, they wobble with the slightest breeze, still I recommend the EF50mm f/1.8, you can get a remote cheap enough for long exposure shots Smile

does she have a flickr account?

Yeah she was looking at really cheap tripods and I was wondering if they would be any good or not. I'll let her know what you said. I'll wait to get more lenses for it as they're much cheaper in England compared to Moscow.

She hasn't got a flickr account but now you mention it, it's a very good idea _cheesygrin::

Here are a couple she took of my cooking. These were her first shots using a digital slr so not bad considering.

I think she's done pretty well so far considering she's still learning and finding out all about apertures and shutter speeds etc.

apertures took me a while to figure out, just remember that the widest aperture (lowest number) gives you an image that isn't so sharp (unless it's a canon L-series lens (they cost around £1000+)).

Generally speaking the sharpest aperture is 2 stops above the widest setting, so the kit lens you own is F/5.6, two stops above that is f/11, so once you get a good tripod and cheap wired remote (wired remote wins for long exposure btw) take food pics @ f/11 to show the detail Smile

and yes! go get flickr!!!..and then link me to said flickr

I have a Diana F+ camera, I've gone from digital back to the nice warm feeling that taking photos with film gives me. sdrool
