GCSE: General Certificate of Secondary Education
You take 10 of them, one of which has to be a language.

Ok, sorry; I've never heard the term GCSE. Shows how much attention I pay in school.

Do you have to take a third language as well?

Nope, there are only 4 required things that you must take:
[list]
[*]English Language
[*]English Literature
[*]Maths
[*]A Modern Language[/list:u]
Apart from that, everything else is optional.

Don't worry, it was an origami tulip. Though the cat experiment would be interesting...

That's good.

Sounds like we have less optional courses here.

Java - then you can build robust cross platform programs and plug-ins. 8)

Why do dogs bark?

They are not barking, they are talking in dog. Obviously you don't understand the language.

I actually know a little Java, so that's a possibility...
Also, Python enables me to write robust cross platform programs and plug-ins - with greater ease (for most things).

Perl - then you can combine poetry with programming...

Poetry
Similar to obfuscated code and golf, but with a different purpose, Perl poetry is the practice of writing poems that can actually be compiled as legal (although generally non-sensical) Perl code. This hobby is more or less unique to Perl due to the large number of regular English words used in the language. New poems are regularly published in the Perl Monks site's Perl Poetry section.

Dear god, perl poetry! Anbd I thought those people who wrote palindromic polyglots (a program where the code works in multiple languages, and reads the same back and forwards) were bad enough...
