Trypophobia - Fear of holes

Uhm for as long as I can remember little holes or a cluster of little holes have freaked the hell out of me. My skin begins to crawl and I itch all over. Patters on holes all clustered together. OMG!

Such as honeycombs, cantelope rinds, snake skin shed, coral and sponges.. the list goes on and on...

I completely freak out. I cant have that stuff near me. Not even in a picture. -GAG-
Also I cannot look at a turtle shells. OMG. I dont fully understand my phobia.
1st I want to know why why why whyyyy does this bother me so much? WHY?

I hear that there are tons and tons of people who have this phobia. It makes me want to rip my eyeballs out.

Thanks for putting the warning MrsKiki but I made the pics into links as well just to be on the safe side. You know what people are like when they see warning, most people then look

It's no problem at all :D It was good you put the warning. Somebody posted some pictures similar a while ago without the warning and it upset a few people hence the caution now.

I'm sure people will reply with their comments though.

*raises hand* I have this.
When I was a kid I once had this dream, everybody in it had small holes in their heads.
I woke up all sweaty and shivering
Ever since that I can't stand small holes or "clusters of little holes" as you put it.
Makes me shiver and all my body starts itching sconfused

*tries hard not to click on the links*

Do you have any idea how your phobia started?

The first picture bothered me a lot. Yes, this is a problem for me as well. When I was younger, my brother got this Buzz Lightyear toy and it had a bunch of screw holes on the back of it. It bothered me so much that I almost got physically sick from it. Also, when I was really young, I woke up in the middle of the night and looked at my bedroom floor. I saw what I thought were holes in the floor and panicked. I was screaming for my dad, and he came and turned on the light. Turns out they were just dark clothing items scattered on my floor. I felt so stupid for freaking out over it.

Wow!!
I don't even think this is my particular phobia...but that first picture gave me that tingly feeling...but I think I know why.

It looks like a bunch of eyes staring at me and the quality of the picture is so clear it looks like you can touch it...weird!

I was fine about the other ones...the turtle shell was kinda pretty :-)

I've posted a comment on trypophobia here in response to query raised by dspunky if anyone is watching this thread.

I am so happy to find this. My husband and kids were just teasing me about this the other day. I saw some pics on the net about these bees that had made a honeycomb under this guys grill and I was like ... I can't look! It makes sick! I have always been like this! My skin crawls!!! Everyone has always been like your crazy! yay! I am not the only one!

Hiya Allycat and a very warm welcome to oFear

It's surprising how many people actually have this fear although there is not much information about it to be found online. I'm sure you will get lots of support here and nobody will be laughing at you that's for sure.

John

I'm amazed to finally have a reasoning for my seemingly "silly" problem.

My mother tells me that when I was little I had a dream about a man whom I thought had marbles underneath his skin and I talked about it for a long time. I can still remember it.

Soon after that, I realized I had aversions to many everyday things that were both holes and 'bumps'. I was afraid and physically ill upon seeing things like gourds, corn, barnicles, poison ivy, acne and acne scars. I got into lots of trouble because almost anything underneath a microscope made me anxious and I would develop hives and become physically ill.

The worst part is that even knowing about this problem, I try aversion therapy and force myself to look at the pictures but it hasn't worked. I'm 25 now - I doubt it will ever work.

I'm amazed that there's a name for it - and I'm not crazy.
