Is anyone afraid/nervous when using public transportation?
I'm not too crazy about cabs/taxis but I'll use them. I prefer to be with someone else though.
I really, really don't like the public buses though. I don't really know why. Maybe because it's full of strrangers, that may judge me? I don't know.
Does anyone else feel this way?

I know it sounds odd, with me agoraphobic, but I'd sooner walk than catch a bus. I've been on an open top tour bus twice now and I was petrified. I missed loads because I had my eyes shut half the time
Busses make me nervous but I guess if I had to catch one, I would.

Well the open top bus because I hate heights and it was open as well, but with normal busses, I used to catch one when my aggy first started so I guess it stems from there. Luckily being a car owner, I have no need for a bus. I did take my kids on one when they were small just so they could go on one (kids eh? :) ) and I was very brave  They had no idea how brave

I was just about to say why did you sit at the top then i realised LOL!!!! Its been a hard day :D Thats good you feel ok in the car because not being able to use public or your own transport would be incredibly difficult. Yeah the things people do for kids, still im sure they appreciate it in there own little way lol.

I've never been on an open top tour bus. I'm terrified of heights to, so I wouldn't be able to.

Haven't used public transportation in 2 years. When I did, I always had to have reading material, paced when waiting for bus or train and drew more attention to myself. I frequently will go past my stop if I can't summons to courage to move then.

I had my first panic attack on a bus because I felt sick and I thought I was gonna chuck infront of everyone. I can use them now, but not very comfortably.

I was sat on a bus once and some guy told me to get out of his seat!

I was most annoyed and said "It's public transport and I can sit wherever I want" - but everyone else complained too and told me to get out of his seat!

So I did.

Didn't want to drive anyhow.

Its the way you tell them Ian

I must admit my girlfriend gets pretty nervous on public transport, trains, busses etc and just lately even I get a little worried when she is nervous. It's kinda started me thinking about things a little more, like why is the train going so fast now?, or why is the train making so much noise? Its funny how it is almost contagious.

Being nervous on the metro wasn't made any better yesterday when I read a report in the news about two girls being pushed into the path of a train on one of the metro platforms. He was an alcoholic apparently. The girls survived but were hospitalised. Shocking though!

My daughter went to London recently and was on the platform when there was a surge of football fans and she nearly got pushed off. Her boyfriend grabbed her and pulled her back. She said that as she was hanging over the edge, she saw someone in the distance further along, fall in front of a train and people were screaming. There should be something done to make it safer. Sorry I've just put everyone off trains forever...... ssmile

Going anywhere near football fans in London is a scary experience Twizzle lol!!

When I used to go to watch Spurs play we used to get on at White Hart Lane station which is right outside the ground and the sudden surge of people when a train pulled into the station was quite forceful and very frightening. Your daughter was very lucky and good on her boyfriend for such quick reactions. I agree there should be something done but coming up with a solution is the hardest part. Places are just getting more and more overcrowded.

Anyway I hope you're well Twizzle?

John

In reference to my other thread on amaxophobia, I do have fears regarding public transportation, the same fears I experience whenever I'm not in control of a vehicle I'm sitting in, that includes taxis, buses, subway, cars driven by someone else, ... I want to and I will overcome this phobia!

Hi everyone, Yes I too am scared of public transport, for example trains, I cant get on a train (the ones here have electric opening doors), I would be scared incase the doors dont open, and I would start panicking something bad.

As for buses, well I cant get on anymore, (i have done in the past over a year ago now) but I would be scared and I would have a panic attack, if thats the right term, I would maybe get about 2 or 3 stops from the one I got on at, then although the journey would be 5 miles, I would get past a certain point and HAVE to get off the bus and get back home AS quick as possible, its ridiculous I want to get on buses and trains and in a car and go out BUT I CANT anyone got any ideas????????
