Why not Joe? Do you have to go to a photographer or something?

Why not??? Because I don't want to have some stranger take a picture of me! Yeah, you basically have to go to the DMV (Where people get their driver's license, etc.) and get you picture taken, and they'll give you an ID. I need it for insurance, and I need the insurance get help for my SA. I want to get help for my SA so bad now, it's like..yeah. But I don't want to get an ID! ssad

Are you sure you have to have the picture taken there? As long as we take the picture "right" we can take it anywhere here I think sconfused
My dad wanted me to go to a photographer to get the drivers license picture but I refused to do that. I just used on of those machines and they accepted it sconfused
Would it maybe help if one of your parents went with you? I know it would be an anxiety provocing situation but it'll just last for a few seconds and then it'll be done
It's good that you're looking for help though stongue

Yeah, I'm positive you have to get it taken there. So you guys can bring a picture with you from home? I wish we had that! You're so lucky! I seriously doubt it's that way here, but maybe it is. sconfused I'd have to ask. But yeah, my mom is going to take me. I've been putting this off for about a month, actually. It's so annoying that you actually need and ID for that.

Yeah I think you should ask :blob:
And if you have to do that for an ID card...maybe you can use your own picture for a passport? Or something else that you can use as ID?(dunno what else counts as ID in the US stongue )
For passports here you have to go take the picture there, but as I said with the drivers license you don't. So maybe it differs between different cards there too?

Anyway good luck, tell your mum to starve you or something until you do it if there's no other way stongue

I hate that!!! Happens to me all the time. The worst is when I have to hold someone's gaze. Ugh.

Then I have to deal with the weird look they get in their eyes when they see that I'm blushing scarlet. Then there's that awkward period where I don't say anything, and they don't say anything, and we both try to pretend that it didn't happen, when we both know it did.

Edit : Reading back over that, you'd think we'd just had a one night stand or something, for all the awkwardness and discomfort that goes one.

Anyone else go "deaf" in social situations? I don't know how this started for me - maybe about the time my SA really kicked in, when my friends and I used to sit in the canteen where there was a lot of background noise and my friends ended up laughing at me because I had to ask them to repeat things so many times - but I think now the fear of not being able to hear people just takes over so I don't listen to people properly...then I do have to ask them to repeat themselves...and most of the time, once I've asked them to repeat themselves, I start thinking that they must be thinking I'm stupid...so I don't listen AGAIN...and eventually I just pretend to have heard...then I say something like, "hmm....yeahhh..."...and then they look at me because "hmm....yeahhhh..." is obviously not an appropriate response to what they said...then I spend the rest of the day beating myself up about it and don't listen the next time someone talks to me... :(

^oh my god it's so odd that you brought this up today!!
I was just about to ask the same thing yesterday! I even googled about it to find out more information. So odd!
I get the exact same thing. I don't know if it's associated with SA or what, but I believe it is. I used to think I had trouble hearing, but I've taken tests and each time they say there's no problem with my hearing at all.
Just like with you...it's connected with background noise and social situations. And probably with anxiety. I'm always the one asking "what?", "what?", after the second "what" I usually end up guessing by either saying "yeah...", "no" or "ok"
So many awkward situations have started because of that, and I always hate myself for it
It doesn't exactly make the social situations much easier when you can't hear what the heck people are saying does it?
It's so annoying, and I always doubt my hearing. I've taken like 3 hearing tests and always end up thinking the test was wrong and that I must have trouble with my hearing.

Does anyone else with SP get this too?

Haha - I considered getting my hearing tested but then I realised I have really good hearing if there's no background noise...or I'm just not trying to interact socially when there's background noise.

Phones! ssleepy
I'm having a little trouble with my new cell phone. I mail costumer support, and they give me a useless reply and tell me to phone them if that doesn't help.
I...I'd rather die than phone them scry

I guess the "I don't own a phone" excuse won't help considering I need help with a cell phone eh?

I'm fed up of seemingly being followed around in stores by security guards.

I give off bad vibes because I have social anxiety, not because I'm a shoplifter (perhaps I ought to wear a t-shirt with these words on! ).

That happens to me too! I hate it!
Once they actually stopped me on my way out from the store, and right in front of everybody she said "we've been informed that somebody saw you steal something and put it into your jacket"
I was like...uh I didn't take anything. She didn't even ask to check the jacket or anything, she just gave me this odd stare and let me go. It was just odd
I think somebody must have seen me put my cellphone into my jacket and figured that I was shoplifting sconfused

I hate people staring at me! Why they have nothing to do beside from staring at me? I mean, they want to make fun of me, then do it infront of my face!
