My fiance and I discovered today that I'm scared of water.
We were walking up to a waterfall near the canal, and the pathway was really muddy, so to avoid the mud, we'd have to walk up alongside the path sometimes. Whenever I got near the canal, I'd get really scared. Even my fiance noticed it.
Looking back on it now, I realize I've had this fear for a while. And I know where it came from.
When I was about 10. I went onto a really fast water-slide that got narrower to gain speed. But as it narrowed, I couldn't lift my head out of the water. I was terrorfied I was going to die. I passed out, and woke up at the bottom of the slide with my dad knelt over me.
I've not been able to go near a water-slide or swimming pool since.
